The first few hours when you wake up can really set the tone for your whole day. When you have a bad morning, it puts you in a bad mood and that can be hard to shake off. But when you have a productive but peaceful morning, it can really help get you in the mood to have a good day.

That’s why I believe that morning routines are so important. When you make it a habit to do things that you enjoy, or things that help you get in a positive state of mind, you’re setting the tone for a happy rest of the day.
There are certain things that I do every morning and since I’ve started doing them, my mornings have literally done a 180 in terms of how I feel. And what I said before is true, these mornings really do set the tone for my day!

So here are 5 easy ways that I made my mornings better:
1. Plan ahead the night before.
Plan ahead for whatever you need to in order to make your mornings less stressful. If (like me!) it takes you a long time to choose an outfit, pick an outfit the night before. If you/your family can never decide on what to eat for breakfast, choose what to make the night before (or create a meal plan). If you need coffee right when you wake up, set your coffee maker the night before. Do what you need to do to make sure your morning will run smoothly.
2. Create a morning playlist.
We obviously feel a little (or a lot) groggy when we first wake up. So instead of reaching for the snooze button, reach for your phone or music player and turn on an awesome morning playlist full of your favorite songs. When you’re making the playlist, choose fun and upbeat music. If you’re anything like me, you’ll be dancing around your room in no time and this can really put you in a good mood right away.
3. Get moving.
Ever since I started getting my endorphins going with my morning yoga and jog, I’ve felt so much better. Just because you’re awake, it doesn’t mean that your mind really is. Getting moving in the morning makes my body feel so much better than just sitting down all morning! I also love using my exercise ball for a midday workout too.
I do these exercises because they’re the ones that I find fun – and that’s important! Don’t do workouts just because so-and-so does it, or because you keep reading about it everywhere. The key is to find what works for you, and what you enjoy. Then you’ll be way more motivated to work out and stick with it!
4. Give yourself some me-time.
A lot of us are so busy that we rarely take the time to do things that we enjoy just for the sake of enjoyment. Mornings are the perfect time to have some fun doing the things that you love! Whether this is spending time on your favorite hobby, watching an episode of your favorite TV show, playing around with your hair and makeup, going to your favorite coffee shop, or whatever else you enjoy.
I love treating myself to Dunkin’ Donuts in the morning! Their food and drinks are super yummy, and they have much more appealing prices than their competitors. I recently tried their new Bold Breakfast Black™ Tea and I literally cannot get enough; it gives my mornings the perfect boost! If you’ve followed my blog for very long, you know I’m a coffee addict, but I’ve been trying to cut back on it a bit and I’ve found that this tea is the perfect replacement!
And the entire Dunkin’ Donuts menu is available all day, including their teas – so you can enjoy it any time. They offer caffeine-free tea too, if that’s what you want. You can even purchase the tea to make at home if you don’t want to (or don’t have time to) leave your house in the morning!
5. Get your mind right.
If you want to be your best self for the day, you’ve got to spend some time replenishing your soul. I firmly believe that the most powerful way to set yourself up for a good day is to spend some time focusing on quieting your noisy mind in the morning. Try to focus on love and peace. How can you do this, you ask? Well there are many ways and you can choose whichever one (or all) that appeals to you.
Here are my favorite ways:
- Meditation (Headspace is helpful)
- Practicing gratitude (get a free gratitude list here)
- Reading the Bible (or another spiritual book)
Side note: If you want a good book to read about the topic of focusing on love and improving your spiritual health, I can’t recommend THIS ONE enough. It’s amazing, no matter what your religion/beliefs are!
