This post is not meant to make you feel like you NEED to focus on looking good when you’re sick. It’s just written from personal experience because I feel more confident when I do these things when I’m sick. <3
Okay, so I’ve already been sick quite a bit this year (I blame the unstable weather) and I’ve struggled with trying to look nice and healthy when I’ve got a cold.
The best thing to do when you’re sick is definitely to stay in bed and rest. But we can’t always do that the whole time we’re sick. Sometimes life is calling and we gotta leave the house.
But if you’re anything like me, you don’t always want to be caught looking like a mess, even if you feel like one. We’ve all struggled with this at some point in our lives, right?
So today I thought I’d share my 7 best tips to make sure you look good when you’re sick!
1.) Use the right tissues
This was a big one for me recently. I was constantly blowing my nose and I didn’t have tissues with lotion so my nose was all red and irritated. If you’re blowing your nose a lot, definitely make sure you’re using tissues with lotion in them. I like Puffs Plus Lotion best!
2.) Take care of dry skin
This sort of goes with number one because that makes my nose super dry. But the rest of my face also tends to get dry as well, so I make sure to moisturize. Adding some highlighter to your cheeks will also make them look less dry and more healthy. And of course, drink lots of water!
3.) Skip lipstick and use lip balm
My lips also get super dry if I’m sick and lipstick dries them out even more. So make sure to avoid lipstick if you’re the same way. Instead, I use a tinted lip balm (Neutrogena is my favorite) to make sure they don’t look so dry.
4.) Take care of your puffy eyes
Puffy eyes are always a problem for me when I have a cold! There are different ways that you can take care of them. You could use an eye mask, or you could just use the usual things like cucumbers, cold tea bags, a cold washcloth, or cold spoons. Whatever you have, these will definitely reduce puffiness.
5.) Don’t neglect your hygiene
I probably don’t need to tell you this, but I’ll include it anyway because it is super important. I know you might be tempted to skip brushing your teeth and just put your unwashed hair in a bun, but don’t. Make sure you take a hot shower, wash your hair, brush your teeth, and wash your face. Not only will doing these things make you feel better, but they’ll make you look healthier too!
6.) Use sick-proof makeup
I use hardly any makeup when I’m sick, but I do wear some. If you’re going to wear makeup when you’re sick, make sure you’re using the right products. Use a tinted moisturizer or a creamy foundation. Just don’t use any powder products because that’s not good for your dry skin. Also, use a waterproof mascara if you have watery eyes. And like I said above, use a tinted lip balm instead of lipstick!
7.) Use eye drops
A signature sign of a cold is red, watery eyes. I always keep eye drops close by so I can use them to help that. They also help me feel more awake!
