Jeez, I can’t believe it’s already August; time flies! July was totally awesome and I noticed a lot of growth in my blog which I’m so happy about. 🙂 But I’m also excited about the rest of August, and seeing what it holds for me!
But anyways, a lot of you seemed to enjoy my post about things to do on Sundays, so I thought I’d write a post on things to do at the beginning of every month.
And if you’ve read many posts on my blog, you know I’m a girl who loves organization/planning/etc. so I always do certain things at the beginning of every month to help me stay organized.
Now, these aren’t big things and you probably don’t think about any of them. But they’re things that I like to do to create a sort of “fresh start” for a new month.
So here we go, y’all! 🙂
1. Lay out some plans and notes.
Whip out your planner/calendar/notebook/whatever and take a look at the month to mark any birthdays, appointments, plans, etc. This will help keep you organized for the month. And if there’s any occasion where you need to spend extra money, make sure to add it to your budget.
2. Set up / evaluate your budget.
Take a look at your finances and figure out if you need to tweak anything, then set your monthly budget. The key to successful finances is budgeting. And even if you’re doing great financially, a quick review of your monthly finances at the beginning of the month won’t hurt!
3. Set yourself some realistic goals.
You guys should know I’m a big goal-getter so I always set myself goals at the beginning of the month – and write them down! You don’t need to write down every single goal for the month – just set yourself a few (or one!) big one(s). While I write out my goals, I also reflect on the previous month. In my journal, I write down how I felt I did with my goals, how I think I’m doing in other areas, and what things/habits I need to change.
4. Deep-clean & declutter your home.
I think it’s a good idea to really deep-clean your house at least once a month. Clean everything that needs cleaned – your stove, rugs, windows; every random thing. Also, be sure to get rid of clutter and unwanted/unused items! Back in February, I read The Life-Changing Method of Tidying Up and I embraced a more (but not completely) minimalist lifestyle. So as I clean, I take around a bag or box to fill up with anything that I want to get rid of. This definitely helps keep the clutter at bay!
5. Pick out a book (or something).
I’m a huuuge bookworm, so I always pick out at least one book to read at the beginning of every month. If you’re not a reader, then make time for something else to improve yourself and/or your knowledge – like sign up for a class or a free online course, pick out a workout plan to stick to for the month, start an online challenge, etc.
6. Clean out your coffee pot.
I’m pretty addicted to coffee. I drink coffee sometimes. 😉 So once a month, I like to clean out my coffee pot. I feel like this is a task that gets overlooked by a lot of people, but it seriously makes your coffee taste better. I just pour a half-and-half mixture of water and vinegar into the pot and let it run 1 cycle, then run another cycle of water to rinse it out.
7. Clean out your purse.
If you’re anything like me, your purse turns into an abyss of random items and junk if you go too long without cleaning it out. I feel like once a month is good because that’s when it really needs it. Plus, I like to switch which purse I’m using sometimes too. So at the beginning of the month, I make it a point to go through it and throw away any receipts, put my loose change in my Hello Kitty piggy bank, and just generally clean it out and re-organize it.
Question: Are there certain things you do at the beginning of the month to prepare for the month ahead? I’d love to see your comments below!
