I love having pretty nails! I don’t know what it is, but I’ve always felt that it was important for me to have nice, polished nails. I love fun designs too! It’s just always been something I’ve liked. Cute nails just make me feel more ‘put together’ – as silly as that sounds.
I never go to a salon for a professional manicure, either. I do it all myself. It not only saves me money, but it’s a nice way to pamper myself too. I have all kinds of fun stuff – stickers, polish, tools, etc. – for at-home manicure and pedicure. But I’ll save all that for a different post!
Right now, I thought I’d just share some of my helpful DIY manicure tips with you:
Use honey and olive oil to soak your nails.
This mixture will help soften your nails and add moisture to them if they’re dry.
Use hydrogen peroxide and baking soda to clean discolored nails.
If your nails are yellowish, this mixture will lift the yellow from them and help clean them. This mixture can also be used to remove any stains from dark polish on your nails.
Use olive oil and essential oil to massage your cuticles.
This will help soften your cuticles. You can also use a q-tip to push them back so they don’t get in the way of your polish.
Use hand lotion to give your hands a massage.
We hold a lot of tension in our hands, so it’s good to let some of that tension out by giving your hands a massage. Plus, it will prevent your hands from getting dry!
Use cooking spray to help dry your nails faster.
Spraying non-stick cooking spray on your freshly painted nails will help the polish dry, plus it will add extra moisture to your cuticles!
Use corn starch to create matte nails.
Make your own matte top coat by mixing corn starch with clear nail polish. Just make sure that you use the mixture right away so the corn starch doesn’t dry out the polish.
Use sugar to clean up spilled nail polish.
Sugar makes spilled nail polish clump up so you can sweep it up off of the floor instead of scrubbing it or leaving stains.
