You don’t need me to tell you how important it is to be drinking enough water, right? You all know this by now!
But anyway, a lot of you may know by now that I’ve been trying to lose a pretty good amount of weight. To be honest, I go through bouts of being super motivated to exercise and eat healthily and then bouts of feeling totally deflated and discouraged about it.
Recently, though, I’ve been pretty good about living a healthier lifestyle. And one of the biggest ways I’ve done this is by drinking more water!We all know how important it is to drink enough water, but here are 9 easy ways to get yourself to drink more! >> Click To Tweet
Drinking enough water is something A LOT of people struggle with, myself included. Whether it’s because we don’t like the taste or because there are so many other yummy drinks around – like coffee or soda. (I have a bit of a problem with coffee.)
But getting enough water in our diet is so important! Not getting enough water can cause loads of problems, such as:
- Constant hunger
- Bad moods
- Skin problems
- Lack of energy
- Frequent headaches
- Digestive problems
So, if you need helping drinking more water, you’re in luck! Here are some tips for sneaking more water into your diet:
1.) Eat your water instead.
This may sound strange, but you can get at least some of your water from eating it. There are a lot of foods that naturally contain water and can hydrate you. Think of foods like watermelon, lettuce, tomatoes, and cucumbers – they contain lots of water, right? I’m not saying that you should get ALL of your water from food, but it’s a good way to help if you’re someone who just can’t stand drinking water. You could also get some of your water from healthy teas too!
2.) Set a daily water goal.
It’s hard to drink enough water if you don’t even know how much you’re aiming to drink. You hear a lot that you should be drinking eight 8 ounce glasses of water a day, but I’ve also read that’s not true. According to U.S. News you should be drinking half of your body weight in ounces of water every day. So if you weigh 140 pounds, set yourself a daily water intake goal of 70 ounces of water. (Although you should also keep in mind that our gender, activity levels, and other factors can make a difference – if we want to get technical about it!) Something that can make daily water goals even easier is setting a goal that you can’t have your morning coffee until you get a certain amount of ounces of water in first!
3.) Start out small.
Sticking with my last example, 70 ounces of water a day may seem like a lot to you and this may make you want to not even attempt it. So you can start small. Instead of aiming for 70 ounces a day, start smaller and slowly make it a habit. You can gradually increase until you’re drinking how much you need each day without even thinking about it!
4.) Add some flavor to your water.
Again, if you’re someone who just doesn’t like the tasteless-ness of water, this one is for you! Add some fruit, veggies, or herbs to your water. I published a post a while back about how to easily make your own healthy flavored water that you can read right here for some inspiration!
5.) Use your phone for help.
There’s an app for that! You can use an app like Waterlogged (for Android and Apple) which uses charts and reminders to help you make sure you’re drinking enough water. If you don’t want to use an app, you can even set alarms on your phone throughout the day to remind you to drink a glass of water when you need to.
6.) Get a cute (and quality) water bottle.
I know it sounds silly but this is true (for me anyway). If you buy yourself a cute water bottle, it can make drinking water more fun! Make sure it’s a decent quality water bottle, though.

7.) Take your water with you.
If you have a cute and high-quality water bottle the next step is to make sure you’re taking it with you everywhere so you’re constantly sipping it. If you have a bottle of water with you, you have no excuse to give in to the temptation of getting something else to drink.
8.) Think of water as an appetizer too.
Make it a habit to drink a glass of water before every meal. Also, drink water WITH your meal. This not only helps you remember to drink another glass, but it also helps you eat less since it fills you up. A lot of people mistake thirst for hunger anyway so it’s a win-win!
9.) Track your water intake until it’s a habit.
A great way to build and stick to a new habit is to track it until it sticks. It can be hard to keep track of how many ounces you’re drinking and that can put you off of your goal.
