You probably already know this, but I have generalized anxiety disorder and sometimes strong bouts of depression (PMDD).
I’m also a Christian and through emails, I’ve come to know that a lot of you are too. But something I, personally, haven’t seen talked about in the mental health world or the religious world is what the Bible says about mental illness. So I thought I’d talk about that today!
I actually came across this article on Wisdom4Today.com talking about mental health and the Bible and it inspired me to share this post.
There are really quite a few verses about mental health. They can offer a source of strength and comfort during our bad days.
I also thought I’d make a printable of my favorite verse about anxiety so you can print it out and put it on your wall or wherever you want like I did. 🙂 You can download it at the end of this post.
So here are some of my favorite Bible verses about mental illness. I hope you find comfort in them and know that He can help you through anything!
“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 4:6-7)
“Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time. Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.” (1 Peter 5:6-7)
“For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.” (2 Timothy 1:7)
“Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.” (John 14:27)
“So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” (Isaiah 41:10)
