Traveling with our significant others is something we all look forward to. It’s a chance to spend some quality time together, detach ourselves from the hustle and bustle of every day living and even fall in love again. So, what’s the magic formula for traveling with your S.O. or having the best weekend break you can imagine?
Well, read on for some helpful advice and traveling tips. Enjoy your break!
Set a budget.
A recent survey found that the topic most couples argue about is money. And you know what? The same applies for couples who are traveling together. Traveling is expensive, we all know that, so it’s no wonder that money issues cause friction. The best way to overcome any financial worries before they set in is to firmly set a budget and stick to it! Make sure you book the big stuff online; plane tickets, hotel and accommodation well in advance and make sure you save and set aside money for things like food, day trips, activities and any particular nights you want to do something special.
It’s also recommended that you put money aside for emergencies too as the unexpected tends to happen when you’re miles away from home!
Beware of hanger.
It happens to the best of us. When we get hungry our fuses tend to get shorter and the slightest inconvenience can really upset the apple cart – driving a wedge between you and your partner. Schedules go out of the window when traveling, so don’t let missing a meal ruin your plans. Make sampling the local food a big part of your adventure – that way you won’t be running on empty.
Pack a small tripod.
You’re going to capture some incredible moments on camera. And some stunning shots of each other – but don’t miss out on those beautiful couple shots. Invest in a small tripod for those once in a life time couple photos. Most have timers on them which connect to your smartphone and you won’t have to ask a stranger to take a photograph of you while one of you blinks and the other has their mouth open. It’s a worthy investment.
Spend time apart.
What!? I hear you cry. Spending time apart when you’re traveling might sound like the exact opposite of what you’re hoping to experience. But trust me on this. As human beings, we all need our own space from time to time; we all need time to breathe and recharge. So, if your S.O. wants to go paragliding, let them – you can read a book in a local café and get to know the locals while you wait. Remember, absence makes the heart grow fonder!
Go with the flow.
Any traveler will tell you, that things don’t always go to plan when you’re on the road. So, the best option? Don’t sweat it and simply go with the flow. So, you accidentally ordered the pigs brains and your partner left the raincoats at the hostel… it might seem like the end of the world, but it really isn’t. Laugh, smile and make memories.
