But there’s another form of beauty that (in my opinion) is even more important: inner beauty. Being kind, being a good person, being confident, being pleasant to be around. These are all parts of our inner beauty and they’re more important than how our makeup looks.
So many of us spend so much time learning about new fashion trends, buying makeup and beauty products, and putting effort into our outward appearance. Again, nothing is wrong with that – I do it, too! But a lot of the time, we don’t spend nearly as much effort working on our inner beauty.
So, today I wanted to talk about some positive steps that you can take to work on your inner beauty and let it shine!
1- Define inner beauty.
If you want to work on your inner beauty, you have to start by defining what it means to YOU. Make a list of people you admire and think about what specific qualities you admire about them. This could be kindness, honesty, integrity, or something else. Then you’ll know what specific traits of inner beauty you want to have.
2- Stop envying other people.
All humans are unique – with unique life circumstances, unique talents, and unique journeys. So when you think about it, there’s really no reason to be comparing yourself to others in a negative way. All this does is bring you down and allow you to take all of the great things you have for granted. Envying others allows unnecessary negativity into your heart. So instead of envying others, use that time and energy to work on yourself. Go after what you want in life, improve your circumstances, and be grateful for what you already have.
3- Practice being authentic.
It can be hard to connect with someone who’s not authentic. It’s important to be true to yourself, and make actions and decisions that are aligned with your personal priorities. Being who you are and being vulnerable is what people crave – someone honest and trustworthy. So stay true to who you are and don’t be afraid to be yourself, no matter what others think of it!
4- Learn to love yourself.
In my opinion, inner beauty has a lot to do with being a loving person. And if you want to be a truly loving person, you should learn to love yourself too! You’ll feel much happier, much more confident, and much more loving toward others too. These are all qualities of someone with a lot of inner beauty.

5- Practice being more positive.
I know, I know, I know. Life can be unfair, we all have problems, and we need to allow ourselves to feel our negative emotions. But I know from personal experience that consciously practicing being positive can do wonders for both your mind and your life. It can also just be draining to be around someone who is chronically negative. Plus, learning to stay positive can help you be more resilient. So yes, allow yourself to feel your authentic emotions – but try not to wallow in them.

6- Be kind + give back to others.
Being kind and giving back not only helps the person you’re giving to, but it also helps yourself. It allows you to gain a new perspective, and find peace within yourself. Giving financially is great and it can definitely help out a lot, but giving your actual time and effort to help someone can be even better. There’s something really beautiful about using gifts in your life to help someone else improve theirs.
7- Laugh (often).
I LOVE to laugh. It can ease tension, reduce stress, make us more pleasant to be around, and make us happier people in general. Sharing a laugh can also help us connect to others. So don’t be scared to lighten up and laugh at anything. Spend time with funny people, watch things that make you laugh, and make jokes whenever you can!
8- Make time for your passions.
Our inner beauty is made up of many different things about us, including our interests and passions. They’re part of who make us who we are. So, make time to take part in your favorite hobbies and interests. You could also try out new hobbies and maybe even learn something new about yourself. You’ll feel more interesting, talented, and confident too!
9- Focus on the present.
A person who lives in the present moment is someone who’s pleasant to be around. We come off as scattered, distracted, and maybe even apathetic when we’re too focused on the past or future. Focusing on the person you’re with or the task you’re doing can not only help your inner beauty, but it can also make you a happier person. So, practice being mindful and focusing on the here and now. Allow yourself to just be.
